R I P Soke Robert Clark
On Thursday of last week, the world of martial arts became a slightly darker place, when one of its brightest stars passed away. Soke Robert Clark was widely regarded as the western worlds foremost exponent of traditional Ju Jitsu, and we in the World Ju Jitsu Federation were the luckiest people of all to have such a great man as our leader, sensei, figurehead and inspiration. Mr Clark has left an amazing legacy in the form of the WJJF, and whilst the federation and in particular the headquaters in Fazakerley will never be the same again, it is now our responsibility as WJJF members, to be part of continuing his legacy in his name and honour.

Gone But Never Forgotten
Kyu Gradings and Sensei Bash

Firstly, we wish to congratulate all our students who recently graded, once again the feedback from the Sensei's was fantastic. Well done, you make us feel so proud of the standards which you the students set.
We also wish to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Bev Hayes from the Mackets Lane Community Association for kindly donating £250 to our club and Mrs Helen Dolan who each week sells flowers, fruit and veg at the club, she has recently given us £100 a big thank you to both ladies, the money has gone towards purchasing 20 new mats for the Arncliffe dojo.
Lastly, our annual sponsored event, the dreaded Sensei Bash was held last Monday 19th September, as always it went down a storm, a great night for all involved. Thanks to all the Children, Sensei's, parents and anyone who sponsored. If all the sponsor money is successfully collected, we will have raised over £600. Once again, well done and thank you to you all, you’ve done yourselves and our club very proud.
Please remember all sponsor money collected, to be handed in by Monday 3rd October, not 5th October which was a misprint on the sponsor form. If you need more time to collect after that, it is not a problem. However, we do need to know where we are up to by then, in order to start making plans for Halloween with the funds raised. Thanks again everyone.
Cancelled Classes
Please note that there will be no classes on Monday 22nd or 29th August at Halewood Leisure Centre, or on Tuesday 23rd August at the Arncliffe Centre for the Holy Family and the Ladies Self Defence classes.
Camelot 2011

As you all know, each year we try to arrange as many events as possible for our students and friends. Today we had our club trip to Camelot theme park and i would just like to say what a great day we all had, perfect weather, hardly any queues and a great bunch of people for company. Thanks everyone.
Just a reminder that on Friday 8th July, we will be having a get together for seniors and parents at the Arncliffe Centre, all will be welcome but could you please let us know if you are attending so we can let the centre know for staffing purposes
Next Kyu Gradings
Next gradings at the club will be on Monday 18th July. Therefore, the next course will be on Sunday 17th July at the Arncliffe Centre. Letters will go out over the next few sessions.
T-Shirts For Training
After a discussion between club officials regarding recent concerns raised at the club about the heat in the training room at Halewood Leisure Centre, we have decided to have a rethink on our policy regarding t-shirts. As from now, for a trial period, students will be permitted to arrive for training in their club t-shirts. During the initial warm ups and fitness training they will be allowed to keep their t-shirts on. As soon as this part of the session is over and before we move on to the main content of the session (techniques) they will have a short break when all students can have a quick drink and put on their gi tops for the remainder of the session. The reason for the trial period is that when we initially introduced the t-shirts, despite numerous reminders of the importance of bringing gi tops to the session, a large number of students were continuously arriving without them. If this proves to be the case again, we will have no option but to revert to our previous strict policy on the wearing of t-shirts. We would also ask you to ensure that your child brings a bottle of water to the class, in order to keep them well hydrated.
In the meantime, the leisure centre manager has emailed the maintenance department of the town council to arrange for the air circulation system in the training room to be checked out. We will keep you informed of any developments on this matter.
Kyu Gradings

Congratulations to all our students who were recently graded, feedback from the Sensei's was fantastic. Once again our students have shown us what a very high standard we have at our club, Well done and keep up the hard work.
New Black Belt

Congratulations to Hannah who took her Black Belt grading at the WJJF Hq's on Saturday, she was fantastic and we received very complimentary feedback from some of our federations top people, we are all very proud of her, Well done again from all of us
New Times And Location
As of Monday 14th March, there are going to be a few changes to class times and location. Whilst we will still be at Halewood leisure centre on Monday evenings, our Thursday class will be moving from Tarbock Village Hall, its home for the last 6 years, to the much more modern and better located Arncliffe centre.
As none of our current junior students, with the possible exception of one or two, have been with us for more than 6 years, you will no doubt have noticed that class fees have not increased at all in this time. However, in that time, without fail, our overheads have increased every year. We are very proud of our club, and the way everyone chips in whenever necessary with fundraising activities to help cover the cost of most of these overheads, resulting in us being able to keep class fees down. Therefore, rather than increasing the fees, we have decided to implement some changes we have been toying with the idea of for quite some time. As you probably know, we have a waiting list at the club. From now on, we are going to allow all children who turn up, to get on the mat straight away. We will be splitting the class into three 1 hour sessions rather than two 1 ½ hour session. We feel this will allow for a more tailor made class for different levels of experience, and also give students much more attention from coaches. The times for your child’s class will be as follows
Mondays Halewood Leisure Centre
Thursdays Arncliffe Centre
Novice, White and Yellow belt 6 – 7pm
Orange belts and above 7 – 8pm
Seniors 8 – 9pm
As class times from now on will be shorter, we will be starting classes right on time, therefore we would like to ask that all students arrive at least 10 minutes before their session is due to begin, allowing time to pay for their class and then have a quick change over with the previous class. We are very confident that these changes will benefit the classes and the students and look forward to a bright future at HJJC. Once again we would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support.
Kyu Gradings
Congratulations to all who passed their gradings last night, the feedback from all the Sensei's who took the gradings was brilliant, so again well done to all.
Also, well done to Phil who had his year head, Mr. Kingston from St.Margrets CofE High School Aigburth, at the club to assess him as part of his GCSE in P.E.
Thanks Mr. Kingston for your kind words about our club.

Im lost for words, but any student who trained under him will understand, not only was Sensei Fred a fantatic teacher, with vast knowledge and experience but he was also a great friend, always happy to help, advise and guide students and coaches.
This really is a sad day for all at the WJJF.

Locking course to be rearranged.
Unfortunately, the locking course we have recently been giving forms out for, is going to have to be rearranged due to it falling on the same day as WJJF black belt gradings. Letters will be going out on Monday with the new date. If this causes a problem for anyone who has already paid for the course, we will return your money to you. Sorry for any inconvienience caused.
Sensei Bash
SENSEI BASH
For those of you have been with us for more than a year, you will know all about our annual sponsored sensei bash. For those who haven’t, you’re going to love this one!!! Basically, what happens is the children all get a sponsor form (on the reverse of this letter) to take home, and get as many of their family and friends as they can to sponsor them to beat up all the sensei’s that have the guts to turn up on the night. Every year it gets more and more fun for the kids, more and more painful for the sensei’s, and more and more hilarious for the watching parents. Sponsor forms must be retuned to the club on the night of the event, which this year will be Monday 11thOctober, to be signed as complete and returned to the student. The forms must then be returned to the club by Monday 25th October along with any money collected REGARDLESS OF IF IT’S THE FULL AMOUNT OR NOT!!! Please note, fundraising events at this time of the year go a long way towards covering Halloween and Christmas events. The sensei bash will be taking place during the junior class, therefore, there will be no lesson for those not taking part in the event, those who are taking part, will still have to pay normal mat fee’s.
Please note, only children who bring along their sponsor forms on the night will be allowed to take part in the sensei bash. Anyone who hasn’t received or forgets their form will only be allowed to watch.
Thankyou Sainsburys!
We would once again like to say a big thankyou to all at sainsburys in Woolton Village, and in particular Jools Atkinson. In the past couple of years they have helped our club to raise over £1000 with 2 bag packing sessions at their store and a very generous grant in which Jools was instrumental in attaining for us. Jools recently contacted us with another date for us to go bagpacking, but unfortunately we were unable to take her up on this very kind offer due to prior commitments. However this show of generousity is not lost on us and we hope to have future opportunities to take them up on their offer.
Clubmark

On Monday 9th March 2010, Halewood and Tarbock dojo's both gained Clubmark accreditation from Knowsley Council. Our clubs were the first to achieve the accreditation in Knowsley. The above pictures show us all with Debbie Rose, Sports Development Officer from KMBC.
Well done to all who contributed and continue to support our clubs, without you all we would not have been able to qualify for the award.
Thanks to all.
No lesson on Thursday
Please note, that due to the village hall being used for a polling station, there will be no casses on Thursday 6th May.
Clubmark
We have today recieved confirmation that both Halewood Ju Jitsu Club and Tarbock Ju Jitsu club have been successful in gaining Knowsley Clubmark Accreditation. Debbie Rose, Club, Coach & Volunteer Development Officer for KMBC will visit us shortly to offically present our clubs with certification.
Many thanks to a great team for all your efforts, without you this would not have been possible.

Well done!!
New Junior Black Belt

Congratulations to David, our newest junior black belt. David passed his grading to glowing reviews from the sensei's who graded him, saying it was the best junior grading they had seen, and from Professor Clark, who commented on his technique and his sharpness and urged him to carry on with his excellent work!
Also, congratulations to Jake, Michael and Kathryn, who obtained their 1st gold tabs, also to rave reviews. The performance of all 4 students on the day, resulted in our club receiving some outstanding compliments from some of the top people in our federation. So once again guys, congratulations, and thankyou for your excellent representation of our club!!!
Nunchaku Course 20/02/10

Well done to everyone who took part in this years end of year display. The kids were amazing, and so well behaved, on what turned out to be quite a long night for them. And what about the ladies from the self defence class!!! WOW!!! I can still feel the bruises! Also, a big thankyou, to all the people who turned up to ...support the kids on the night, it was a fantastic turn out, and i'm sure you're all very proud of what they have achieved. Thankyou all again, for the tremendous support throughout the year, and in advance for what i'm sure will be the same next year. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
December 2009 News Letter
Halewood Ju JItsu Club News Letter December 2009
Demonstration
The last session of the year will be Monday 14th December. This will be a demonstration session, where the children will get a chance to show some of what they have learned over the past year, to their families. The demonstration will be followed by a presentation of awards, including student of the year. All students must arrive for the session by 6 o’clock, and whilst we cannot give a definite finish time, we will be aiming for as close to 8 o’clock as possible. The first lesson of the New Year will be on Monday 4th January.
Christmas party
The date for this years children’s Christmas party, is Saturday 12th December. It will be held at Tarbock Village Hall, between 12 noon and 2 pm. The party is for students of the club only, and we would ask that parents drop their children off at the hall at 12 o’clock, and return for them by 1. 45.
Gradings
Gradings next year, will be held on 4 preset days throughout the year. They will be on Monday evenings, during normal session times. The whole evening, from 6 -9, will be used for gradings. For those not taking a grade, a special session will take place, which these children can leave at normal time. We will inform you of the dates when we return in the New Year, however, we would expect them to be sometime in February, May, August and November. If your child has reached the required amount of lessons for their next grade, we will ask you to bring the grading fee to the session. If after looking at them, they are ready to move on, we will take the money and they will progress. If however, we feel they are not quite ready, we will not take the money, and we will make a note of what they need to work on for next time.
Budo passes
As of yet, we do not know if there will be any increase in lesson fees next year. However, there will be an additional charge of 50p to the session fee, for anyone who does not bring their budo pass along to the session. This is as a result of our failure to find any other system, where students remember to bring them to the class.
We would like to take this opportunity, to thank everyone who has helped with the fantastic fundraising efforts of the past year, including the Llyn Brenig walk, Sainsburys bag packing and the sensei bash, not to mention the funds raised by Helen and Sue with their kind donations which they sold on Thursday evenings at the village hall. It is through this kind of generosity, that we meet all the financial requirements of running a fully insured and successful club, so once again, thankyou all very much.
Finally, we would like to wish all of our students and their families, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Child Protection

Well done to our Club Welfare Officer and coaches for completing a number of NSPCC courses. These courses covered Child Protection, Preventing bullying behaviour, Someone to turn to, Keeping children safe in sport and Creating a culture of safety.
New Black Belts & Junior Leaders
Congratulations to our clubs newest junior black belts, Phil, Kathryn, Jake and Michael. All 4 of them passed their gradings with flying colours at the weekend and received some very positive comments about the standard of their training. Congratulations also go to David and Hannah, for their outstanding results on the assistant junior leader course the following day, were they started on the ladder to becoming Fully qualified coaches. Well done everyone!!!
Best of luck now to Colin, who will be taking his senior black belt grading on Saturday.
camelot trip
To everyone who is coming with us to Camelot on Saturday 22nd August, we will be meeting at the sports centre at about 9.00am to leave as soon after nine as possible. We are scheduled to leave the park to return home at 4.00pm. Thanks.
Bag packing at Sainsburys in Woolton Village
On Saturday 1st August, a few members of our club, along with one or two people who just came along out of the goodness of their hearts, were very kindly allowed by Sainsburys, in Woolton Village, Liverpool, to spend a few hours packing bags for their very generous customers. This is the second time they have allowed us to do this in the space of 8 months, and this time round, we managed to raise the fantastic sum of £523.26. This money is now going to pay for personal indemnities for 6 of our instructors for another year along with a few C.R.B's which are due for renewal this year. These are very important, yet expensive parts of running a martial arts club, and without the genrosity of people like Jools Atkinson, who is the parent of one of our junior students and is also the person who arranged both of our bag packing days, along with our students, their parents, and a few members of our own families who are always on hand to help out with such events, not to mention Sainsburys themselves, along with their very generous customers, our club would surely struggle to survive. So once again, a big thankyou to all involved, each of you have played a very important part in the continuing developement of our club!
Ladies self defence class
Our ladies self defence class has been running for a month now, and we have been blown away by the positive reaction we have recieved. Every week so far, we have had at least one new starter. Without exception, all of the ladies have been amazed at their capabilities, and the enjoyment they are getting from the lessons. We are really pleased with the attitude of all the girls towards the class, and with the constant encouragement they give each other, especially when it comes to giving sensei Norman a bit of a beating!! The combination of sensei's Norman and Andrea's teaching, along with sensei Ste when available, seems to be hitting all the right notes with the girls, whilst we, at the same time are constantly learning from the way the situations which they themselves come up with. So, well done ladies, and keep up the good work, and for anyone thinking of having a go, why not come along to the class on Tuesday evening 6.30-7.30 at Tarbock Village Hall, where you can either watch or just get straight on and have a go!
or you can email us for further information via the contact us tab below.
